Transitioning from the hospital system to opening a clinic for the underserved was not just a career change—it was a leap of faith. In this talk, I recount the pivotal moments that led me to leave behind the structured environment of a hospital to serve those who often fall through the cracks of traditional healthcare. I’ll share the joys and trials of establishing a clinic in an underserved community and how the experience shaped my understanding of what it truly means to heal and empower individuals. This journey has been a testament to resilience, innovation, and the power of meeting people where they are.
Injustice often sparks transformation, and my story is no exception. After facing systemic barriers and unfair treatment in my medical career, I realized the need for bold advocacy in healthcare. This talk delves into the challenges I faced, from navigating accusations that threatened my livelihood to standing firm against inequities targeting minority physicians. I’ll share how these personal trials became the driving force behind my mission to bring justice to the system while empowering families to move from crisis to stability. My journey is a reminder that adversity can be the catalyst for profound, lasting change.
My passion for serving the underserved goes beyond providing medical care—it’s about creating a movement that uplifts communities and addresses systemic issues at their roots. In this talk, I explore how my personal and professional experiences have driven me to advocate for change in healthcare policies while providing hands-on support for families in crisis. From founding United Against Poverty and leading the 100 Families initiative to collaborating with churches and local organizations, this journey is a call to action for transforming systems and cultivating hope. It’s about healing not just individuals but the structures that shape our society.
This blog is a reflection of my calling to embody the words of Isaiah 58:6-7 by advocating for families in crisis and fighting for justice.
